In the quiet dark hours, one is free to look up.

On this day in 2022, I was sitting in on open hillside restaurant at sunset, sipping Prosecco, watching fishing boats bob on the Mediterranean Sea while a couple of jets passed by.
I can even remember what I ate, but this pic is about the glorious serenity of this Italian moment.

Vernazza is one of the 5 centuries-old villages that make up the Cinque Terre, on northwest Italy’s rugged Ligurian coast.
Here you can see the day tourists waiting for the train out.
And I was there on this day in 2022 as part of my Italian Odyssey - it was a grand time.

A dawn report from Sydney Harbour - silhouette delight of Bennelong Restaurant and the southern sail of the concert hall.

On this day in 2021, I’d made my way to the wondrous Barangaroo Reserve, looking across Sydney Harbour to Balmain East, the ferry stop and Darling Road meanders up the hill.
I really cherish the pre dawn solitude of a sleeping city.

This block of flats at the southern end of Bondi Beach is a perfect example of mid 20thC simplicity seen in on a clear Sydney dawn.
Now, sadly, unaffordable for most.

I was out at dawn this morning (long story about an opening night at the opera and dog walking on crutches), and it was wonderful as pink gave way to apricot.
But no camera, so from this time last year.
Across Berrys Bay, you can see the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House

On this day in 2023, Bondi Icebergs ocean pool glowed green as a dawn hues emerged on a Sydney dawn.

Sydney’s Surry Hills has gone through many changes since white arrival.
Farmland, then industrial area, then workers arrived, migrants last century called it home and now too expensive for most.
I settled here in 1986, 40 years later, I’m still a blow in.

This time last year, I was on the far south coast of New South Wales checking out a potential sea change, it is paradise.
Now I’m deeply in debt, but eyeing the future.

A little better each day

2018, it certainly seems like a lifetime ago. Before Covid, I was still making a living in media, my daughter was a mean teen.
Sydney’s Elizabeth Bay looks the same on this day seven years ago.
A perfect dawn.

On this day in 2019, it was a Thursday. A blue Thursday.

On this day in 2022, Sydney’s Rushcutters Bay had a moody dawn.
No longer resplendent with rushes, but yachts dabble the bay.

Laying in bed with mild discomfort from my new hip (photo of scar available on request), I mentally wandered up Bourke Street in Sydney’s Surry Hills.
I’ve lived in Surry Hills since 1986, and on Bourke Street since 1999 and I really like the place, even old blocks of flats emit charm.

I posted a shot of my tiny bush or crucifix orchid about to blossom, thanks for the interest and requests.
This is one of many hundreds of blooms in my backyard.

I’ve slowly made my way to my GP for my two week post new hip dressing change, but rather than dwell on steel and ceramic, I’d like to point out that the corner of Crown and Albion Streets in Surry Hills on this fine day are resplendent in spring bliss.

I don’t know why Clarke Street in Sydney’s CBD was given this name in 1978, also, I don’t know what it was called before that.
I do know that I call this the Jenga Building.
A fine spring day to celebrate the fact that the rest of the world is far away.

I do love a dawn cityscape or a pre dawn complex urban alley, but simplicity often beguiles me.
The crucifix or bush orchid is native to Central America, but loves Australian crappy soil.
This little gem from my backyard will open soon to reveal a brilliantly orange flower.

Who doesn’t love the name Woolloomooloo?
Five years ago today, overnight showers had soaked the boards of the Woolloomooloo Bay boardwalk, but Sydney still managed a delightful spring dawn.
And please note, the dragon is a chainmail replica, so no training was required.

Robert Campbell arrived in Sydney from Scotland in 1798.
He opened businesses and built wharves around the harbour.
His first was at this spot, now known as Campbell’s Cove.
This dawn shot is from this day in 2018 when renovations to the forecourt were underway.

Four years ago today, I cycled across the Sydney Harbour Bridge to arrive at Lavender Bay just in time for a dawn treat.

Five years ago today, sunrise at Garden Island Naval Base.
Nestled on Sydney Harbour’s Woolloomooloo Bay, about 1500m from the centre of the city, these warships get the glamour views.
