spending and action with the will of the people as expressed through congressional appropriations, not through "Presidential priorities." U.S. Const. art. II, § 3, cl. 3 (establishing that the Executive must "take care that the laws be faithfully executed
.."). Federal law specifies how the Executive should act if it believes that
appropriations are inconsistent with the President's priorities-it must ask Congress, not act unilaterally. The Impoundment Control Act of 1974 specifies that the
President may ask that Congress rescind appropriated funds.? Here, there is no evidence that the Executive has followed the law by notifying Congress and thereby effectuating a potentially legally permitted so-called "pause."

if i had a nickel for every high school history teacher who saved my life, i would have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that there’s two of them

High school was difficult for lots of reasons. I was so certain I was going to be an engineer, I was trying to cram as many AP classes as possible into my schedule, and my mental health was hitting rock bottom after rock bottom. My school had one sociology teacher—I never took her soc class but she also taught AP European History which I did take. Now as a sociologist planning my dissertation Im more grateful than ever to have had her as a teacher. As a teacher she was an incredibly effective communicator a great lecturer and discussion facilitator and clearly passionate about the subjects she taught. But much more importantly she was kind. She was compassionate. She made it clear that she cared about her students as people. She spoke to us as people in a way that many adults wont with teenagers. She was a good teacher of course. But to us—to me—she was a good person first.
I use the past tense because not long after I graduated high school she stopped teaching. And she was right to—the schools climate had changed from the admin to the students to the parents to the building itself. I had seen her the following year—visiting the school on a college break sneaking through the halls to avoid geting kicked out by admin young enough to still look like a student—she told me how things had changed, how they were getting worse, how the field Ive come to love was being devalued. It was bad. It was sad. It reflected poorly on that schools admin and the state of education in general. I can't say Ive spoken to her much since then. From what Ive gathered from posts across platforms, it seems like life has been good, but hard. I remember holding her daughter, only a few weeks old—shes almost 7 now. It’s strange to think if Id be in the same place if Id never been her student. Would I have chosen sociology at all? Would I be pursuing a career in academia? It’s hard to say really.
Whats for certain though is that I would be a worse version of myself if Id never been taught by her.

"Health disparities research" is a field of study where researchers look at how things like race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status can influence health outcomes. Now any gov't website about this says "page not found".

This is a dystopia that I did not imagine that we'd be living through.
