The plural of anecdote is not data but this doesn't align with my experience. When I was interviewing for my replacement at Pocket Worlds (principal engineer role at a startup) I talked to folks from Meta, Google and Amazon (iirc) and they all aced a task very similar to this. Before good AI.

A tricky edge case might be that the rule would need to apply for non-dataclass-transforms classes (in dataclasses, class-body annotations are super common and that's probably a different discussion).

I ran into this again today.

So let's say the class-scoped annotation case is hopelessly lost. I see if I don't annotate an instance attribute in the class body but only in `__init__` ty does the right thing.

Would you consider a feature flag to forbid class-body instance attribute annotations?

Thanks for the info and the link. Completely understand why you folks went the way you did. And I understand SQLAlchemy's stance too, they predate dataclasses by quite a while and I think typing is super tricky for them.
