You would still crochet (hold the hook) in your right hand but the string of yarn would be wound on your left hand. (Or reversed like me because I'm left handed) pretend I'm holding the hook with the other hand. The hook hand steers the other hand just tightens the yarn.

You can try wrapping the yarn around your finger. I wrap it twice if I want a lot of tension. If you miss the last stitch in a row it might look wonky. I use bobby pins to mark my first and last stitches if it's hard to follow. (I have a flat fridge magnet beside me that I stick the bobby pins to.

Like x 1000. I'm a retired ups driver and my route was in the hood. Let me tell you that poor people rarely buy things and when they did get things they were happy and I was happy for them! Yes, they want a tv and yes they want a barbie dream house for their little girl.

Very pretty. Your mom had an eye for coordinating colors. It's a chevron or ripple afghan. Looks like half double crochet stitches.
