I hear they won’t give you your PhD unless you cry in front of your PI at least once, so really what happened today was positive progress towards my eventual graduation

Is it really a day in lab if I haven’t doubted the fundamental basis of my entire research project

Combat the dread of your impending meeting with your PI by reading a paper so you at least look productive if she walks by

I’ve officially reached the stage of my PhD where I have to self-medicate whatever’s wrong with my brain via copious amounts of caffeine. This will certainly have very foreseeable consequences.

Hot grad school take #2: everybody has their pet “thing that’s never going to work” in academia. Mine is viral-based gene therapy. If AAVs have one hater, it’s me. I just think they’re a waste of time. I look forward to being proven wrong, though.
