You can bike to school year round in Calgary!

Yes the lower vehicle hood is a big factor here.

The impact was more on the legs which kind of flipped them over and not a body check to the torso and head. They were lucky their head didn’t really hit the asphalt.

I’d say they are pretty similar, other than the car centricity. Canada is heavily influenced by that American influence.

Was thinking more of people living in America who wanted to escape the topics mentioned but maybe don’t want to move as far away as UK.🤔

Fatality risk at 30km/h is less than 10%.
tinybeaches.bsky.social
This is not to excuse the driver, but the reason why we are even watching this video and why it’s not a fatality is because Airdrie has a city wide 30km/h speed limit.

30km/h has an significantly lower fatality risk in driver vs walker collisions.

Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.

The builders of this tower are likely behind the line painting below…
tinybeaches.bsky.social
Maybe, but Calgary has over 1000 km of pathways with painted lines that are perfectly straight. It just doesn’t make sense that they weren’t able to do it here.🤔
tinybeaches.bsky.social
Exactly! That’s what I am thinking.

What are people’s thoughts on the crocket painted line on 15 Ave SW Cycletrack?

Was this done on purpose by someone who wanted it to look ridiculous? Or is it just a funny distraction for a laugh?

There was new/still construction near Safeway with nothing but closures. No detour.

Another great video by @evanedinger.bsky.social about why he cannot move back to the USA.

Surprised he didn’t mention moving to Canada as an option. 🤔

By here you mean London? If so yes!

American exceptionalism, the role the film industry had in the world fantasizing about American life, and the realization how bad it actually is thanks to social media… all covered in this video. 👇

That’s awesome to hear! 👍

I find it surprising because there is nothing uniquely different about the work that’s being done. It’s the same material and tools as any other road work. It’s just the outcome that’s different.

So really they are really just saying all road work is too expensive. 🤷‍♂️

I still can’t believe these construction workers, when asked if they were building the bike lanes, told a mom and two kids (who super excited to see them built) that bike lanes are too expensive and the city shouldn’t be building them.🤨

They are literally selling out their livelihood! 🤦‍♂️

The final row in the count up to 350,000 riders on Calgary’s 5 St SW Cycle track is complete as of today Oct 6, 2025.

There are 86 days left this year, meaning the cycle track has had an average of 1,255 riders/day.

That sounds like a successful and well used cycle track! 😀

I can only chalk this up to people not thinking about what they are saying. They’re also not thinking people will think about what they hear.

At some point someone told this construction worker that bike lanes are expensive and they are just parroting the message without a second thought. 🤷‍♂️
tinybeaches.bsky.social
It makes the concept of someone working in the business of making things with concrete as asphalt, openly slamming the business of making things with that material so bizarre.

What exactly is going on?🤷‍♂️
tinybeaches.bsky.social
What’s funny (peculiar) about this is the concrete used is not different from any other construction. Neither is the pavement. So really the message being delivered is that all road construction is expensive.

So I guess we should try to avoid all road construction? 🤔

Bike lanes are expensive…

This is what a construction worker told a neighbour as they were building a bike lane in our neighbourhood. 🤔

Imagine slamming a project that is literally putting food on your table.🤷‍♂️
