I also really like the teaching style of GDQuest, so it would be nice to learn from them more, but it is unlikely I will be able to invest money in courses rn, bc my financial situation is pretty unstable. Will see!

The plan is to finish with the free GDquest app, and then to follow along two basic scripting tutorials by Godotneers on YouTube. And then return to the Playable Workshop!

After finishing my studies, I forgot everthing. But I am eager to finally beat this beast: I am way more belive in my ability to learn now, in my 30s, than I was in my 20s... And I have no plan to use generative tools such as chatgpt by my own will, so I will fucking learn to code or else... Yeah.

I am currently in lesson 22 out of 27, and it is perfect.
The app teaches you programming from the very zero with very basic stuff.
I am not a complete 0, since I learned some statistical analysis with Python and R back in my college days, but I was very bad at it, and it was a long time ago.

Turned out, the Playable Workshop has a library of other resources for indie gamedev on their website.
This is where I found Gdquest school: they make mostly paid courses, but also have this completely free online app, teaching the basics of GDScript for Godot.

Unfortunately, I quickly realized I needed something way more basic on the programming part.
The very second lesson there is on GDScript, which is a programming language of Godot, and I came through the whole lesson, but I feel dissatisfied with my level of understanding of the script.

This is a great resource brought together by YouTuber Jack Sather and gamedev Nick Glenn, where they record a step-by-step long tutorial on how to make a 3D adventure-style game in Godot.
I followed along several first lessons and they are amazing. www.youtube.com/@playable-wo...

I am a big fan of open source, so the free and open source Godot was my natural first choice.

Researching Godot tutorials, I came across a YouTube channel called "Playable Workshop".

I am also consistent in the belief that genocide is, in fact, bad; for this reason, I support the Palestinian cause, as well as Sudan, Congo, Armenia, Burma and all the people who stand against imperialism around the world. That was just a disclaimer to clear things out.

There is also the scary world around, with wars and devastation. I was born in Russia, lived there most of my life, and had to immigrate since my country went full fascist with killing our neighbors. I am a very political person, I have friends in Ukraine, and I support the Ukrainian resistance.

Maybe I will ditch everything altogether in a couple of months. Still worth trying, isn't it?

I don't really know how things will turn out; recently, I have started to learn Blender (just finished the donut tutorial, yay), and I have a plan to learn the basics of Godot for my very small first game. But I am a grown adult in my thirties, I am poor, I have a job, and a lot of problems.

I have drawn and painted all my life, but I never had a proper training, so… My skills not where I want them to be. I was always fascinated by the properties of light and shadow, so I quickly catch inspiration looking at night urban landscapes. I want to make games about cities, nights and lights.
