I have older relatives who were in their 20s when Marcos forced martial law on the Philippines, and they relocated to in the US (and were eventually naturalized) just as they were being ousted from power.

This is infuriating. I worked with PEPFAR for my first three years of professional life, and my role was managing the bureaucracy of bringing ARV treatments to communities on the African continent. We have saved millions of lives. This was a nonpartisan effort led by President Bush. Why???
