At this stage I’m of the mind that we simply won’t see a “Pentagon Papers” release. I think what will break it open is their stupidity in releasing something on accident.

Im not being a jerk to say it doesnt get easier. What gets easier is your resilience and your ability to say that we never get enough time, and that the more time I spend on this the less time I have with my own kids. You will make the year, but it does hit in strange ways.

The former tends to waste resources. The latter rewards the already successful. From higher elevations, it gets to what a university proposes to be, and what its purpose is.

I’ve often thought there are two ways of funding academic departments. You have your budget. If you have a surplus, where does it go? Either to support programs that are not as good (by research or enrollment) or to support thriving programs more.

Worthy of a serious discussion. “Centers of Excellence” are often means of supporting projects outside of faculty control and governance. Yet admin love them.

I talk to my sons about working to be better than me. I work to be better than my dad, and he worked really hard to be better than his dad. Simple thing: I have never yelled at them when they spilled milk. My dad acted like it really was the end of the world.
