I encourage people who consider themselves 'safe' and 'allies' to take the time to read "White Fragility". It is only through truly understanding Racism and the part one plays in it can you fight against it.

In today's climate when the people around us are saying "we can disagree on politics and still be friends" it is this term that comes to mind. They do not see their participation in New Racism. They do not see their complacency in the discrimination of their "black friends"

I don't like classic large cookouts
I got limited exposure to the black side of my family, but the one cookout I went to with like 50+ people was awful. I DON'T LIKE SHARING FOOD. I saw uncle tony (name redacted for his dignity) dip his saliva spoon in the potato salad and act like he didn't do it!
