Brian Connolly (lead singer for Sweet) is born in Govanhill, Glasgow, Scotland.

Sweet had the 1973 UK No.1 single 'Blockbuster', plus 14 other UK Top 40 singles.

Connolly died of kidney and liver failure on February 9, 1997.
