Love those use cases! Probably > 1000x more effective than slop texture generation.

Also reminds me of the post from Embark about machine learning their animations for the robots in Arc Raiders.

Wonderful! Glad it has had an impact.

I've seen flash-2.5 also be really good at this, it's just which provider you already have contracts with and feel like integrating tbh.

This is GPT-5-nano with $50 in the credit. From the captioning you can see it'll last quite a while.

A few things we learned:

→ Decide if images are decorative (empty alt="") or essential (describe what matters)
→ Keep it short—usually under 150 chars
→ Don't duplicate captions
→ Focus on who/what and why it matters

Your newsroom should be using AI for this today
Accessibility is the easiest and most meaningful place to start, and alt text is where AI can make an instant impact.

At the FT, we integrated this directly into the CMS. Editors upload an image, click a button, and get AI-generated alt text. They review and edit before publishing.

The result: better accessibility scores, time saved, and better service for readers using assistive tech.
tk.gg
Most images on news sites need alt text. Hardly anyone writes it consistently. Most editors would rather not spend their day doing it.

But with AI, you can fix this in minutes—and actually improve accessibility for readers using screen readers.
tk.gg
The easiest way to show your newsroom is actually thinking about AI isn't the 50th summarization tool or chatbot. It's automating the jobs people don't want to do.

Like, bluesky's favourite: alt text!

I wrote about how we built this at the FT, with an interactive demo: tk.gg/posts/ai-alt...

You'll need to do a media query to have different widths on wider screens. Chatgpt can hook one up for you relatively quickly.

Ask something like "I need a CSS only template for the width of a website body tag that makes it full width minus margin on mobile and 50% centered on the widest screen"

On a similar note is there any other business that takes someone with ~40 employees and immediately makes them the leader of ~50x that number?

It is very weird to describe The Free Press as a news organization when on its masthead it has as many columnists as it has editorial staff.

Brown is now on both of my front pages! At least in this one I wasn't accused in the caption of pushing children out of the way to get a photo with him.

Thanks Cameron 😊

A colleague Oliver also put together a deskhog for a leaving gift with personalised positive affirmations that I just love.

I left the @financialtimes.com yesterday. As is tradition, everyone leaving the FT with enough tenure gets a front page satirising their accomplishments and my team did not hold back.

@posthog.com and coda.io got some serious free advertising too. Unfortunately for them that advertising is to me.

Ooh, who has resigned then? I missed that! Sorry!

small note: pretty sure the person who said they resigned was memeing, there's no mention of Vercel in their posts beforehand

I find it very interesting (funny) when big journalistic names get spun out with the impression that the value they hold internally, and with their sources, has translated to name recognition with the public, and interest in their work specifically.

Practically never the case.

Everyone I've talked to has been very honest about the DX and very pro about improving it. I suspect see a lot more on this front soon (just unfortunately you are seeing it on X first right now because it has a monopoly on chat in the PST timezone)

Overnight, the Online Safety Act has claimed its first victim.

Imgur.com is no longer serving for UK based users. This means millions of embedded images on community forums and social networks like Reddit don't resolve for UK users anymore.

A VPN is required to use these bits of the internet now.
