Likely the transformer in the bell box or condensation in the switch bridging the circuit.

I don’t really like milage tracking either, but this was more of a response on the upcoming per mile fees of uk, oregon and few other places. EVs generally get charged more compared to their combustible counterparts and some folks dont feel its all that fair.
