I think we underestimate the public. A lot of us/them seem to understand the gravity of the situation better than elected officials. I think yr idea is more a message to assuage the ruling class

First mistake is assuming the “best and brightest” are found in elite universities and end up in Mckinsey. He comed across as superconfident and arrogant - much like the people he maligns

The problem I have is that these are not just policy or poltical compromises labour are asking of its base - but ethical and moral compromises which I will not make.

at least it can re-draw the line between the labour party and the tories/reform on the issue - which is vital in presenting voters with an alternative narrative to the one the far right is peddling.

Also, its not just ‘activists’ that are worried about racism (however the author is defining that) - its a broad spectrum of ethnic minorities too - you know, because of their physical safety - but lets coddle reform voters even more

You know - I was so thankful when Labour got in as I saw it as an important and possibly lone guardrail in Europe against the rise of the far right (esp govts) - and it has been a bitter disappointment. We have so few leaders that are meeting this moment.

part of the reason we’re in the mess we’re in is because people with hierarchical power (and the protection that comes with that power - its not just risk) are not standing up to fascism. the idea that we’re all dealing with the same risk/reward ratio is intellectually dishonest.
