I am in my mid-30s and have experienced a total of eight months (July 2009 - Feb 2010) of a functioning Congress that actually passed good new laws

Check out Ta Chido on Parc in the Mile End, especially for the tortas. Honorable mentions to a couple good spots on Notre-Dame in St-Henri for tacos, too.

None of them are an El Farolito burrito, which I miss dearly. Proper burritos don't seem to exist. But those at least scratch the itch a bit.

I took the 80 daily for years, and even when it actually met the old 10 minutes max guarantee, and even with articulated buses, it was still jam-packed.

Tramway or not, there are a ton of problems to solve on that line, but I do think it's a good example of where buses alone aren't sufficient.

American planning will micromanage the facade materials of infill five-over-one developments—something that is trivial and easy to change—and then sign off on junk like this—poor street and public space plans that will undermine the quality of life of residents for generations.

We need to reckon with the fact that we invented a way to get the average occupancy of a vehicle below 1.0

The bigger the circle, the more contested the definition.

"What is an LLM": read a paper
"What is ML": read a textbook
"What is AI": debate club

Galaxy 2 is a Majora's Mask

Tears of the Kingdom surprisingly did not turn out to be a Majora's Mask

And the vast, vast majority of those votes are not in competitive races!

If there's one thing the framers wanted it's for the President to be able to send a standing army to occupy cities, harass his political opponents, and stifle dissent. They wrote the Declaration because they were furious when George III refused to do any of those things

Canadian metros pretty consistently punch above their weight relative to comparable US peers. Twin Cities vs Montreal is another good pair where the comparison is, as you say, wild

Players are inducted into the Hall by a secret ballot among baseball journalists. Ichiro was one vote short of unanimous (393/394). That it wasn't 394 says far more about one pompous writer than it does about Ichiro, who is universally beloved and as great a player as there's ever been.

I love baseball but I can admit that there comes a point in extra innings in midseason ball when everyone involved just wants a resolution to the thing, even if some corners have to be cut.

That point is not the start of the 10th inning.

If it started in the 12th, it would probably be popular.

It's actually a pretty ancient idea!

When I saw this poll, my first thought was that there'd probably be a big difference in approval for a state taking this action vs. the feds doing it.

I mean, I'd be all for that too! But an AirTrain extension feels to me like a more modest, achievable goal than a big intermodal station for BART/Caltrain/HSR on the Airport grounds

(Acknowledging that my solution would make all the little fiefdoms angry at each other though)

My hot take is that – in the absence of a proper train hall under SFO – BART should skip SFO entirely, and AirTrain should extend directly to Millbrae station.

Cuts several minutes off BART to Millbrae, and allows Caltrain (and someday HSR) riders to skip the awkward BART transfer.

"[We] have begun defining a new economic and security relationship between Canada and the U.S.

Simultanément, le Gouvernement œuvre à renforcer ses relations avec des partenaires commerciaux et des alliés fiables."

"des alliés fiables" is damning.
