I think a lot of people are conflating GenAI with all other types of AI because of how big of an issue it is right now. If we were to drop every game that uses some form of AI, we'd have next to nothing left! 🤣
December 17, 2025 at 3:16 PM
Absolutely! If anything, mass pirating could lead to further reliance on GenAI.

Companies suddenly making a lot less profit would inevitably turn to using more GenAI to keep production going for cheap. Of course it would take a while to get to that point but it feels like circular logic
December 17, 2025 at 3:14 PM
Yeah! It honestly just feels like they want a reason to brag/not feel guilty about getting free games than anything else
December 17, 2025 at 3:11 PM
Spitting, you can't have it both ways with this one
December 17, 2025 at 3:11 PM
Yes, I saw someone talking about Machine Learning in this way aswell, and it's just not the same thing
December 17, 2025 at 3:10 PM
Right - AI, in some form, has been used in games since the 50s/60s.

Generative AI obviously hasn’t, but a lot of game mechanics and technical systems do rely on AI, and I see those things get conflated all the time. It's got to a point where people see the term "AI" and it's pitchforks
December 17, 2025 at 3:09 PM
Yes, I would like to think this results in companies walking away from GenAI, but realistically, I think we're just going to see them become less transparent about its use 🥲

Having read what was actually said compared to what made it online/into articles I'm still intending to buy it. It's even less than what games like E33 used...and that's been the darling of the gaming space for quite some time now, despite the fact news broke of this back when it released.
December 17, 2025 at 2:51 PM
Yes, I dislike GenAI, but this particular situation having read about it doesn't feel like it warrants this kind of response. I get the disappointment but it feels overblown

There's a misunderstanding of things like Machine Learning and other forms of AI too - which has been widely used for decades
December 17, 2025 at 2:48 PM
Couldn't have said it better myself. It's stealing art all the same and it's wild to see the mental gymnastics every time a piece of news like this releases.

Even when it's not specific to AI, and related to layoffs/job losses...the end result of mass pirating is layoffs and job losses? Wild
December 17, 2025 at 2:41 PM
to get riled up about. I was the same with E33 and The Alters (which no one would have noticed at all if it wasn't left in on accident)

It does suck a lot - but I think the best we can expect atp is it doesn't make it to final product & studios are upfront so people can make informed decisions
December 17, 2025 at 2:38 PM
If I'm honest, whilst it's disappointing - the main argument or at least my main argument against it has been loss of jobs through theft. I respect other's opinions, but reading that they're continuously hiring and using it in the very specific way that they are...idk, it's not enough for me -
