Our friend the Apennine Yellow-bellied Toad lives in southern Italy! They only lay a few eggs at a time but are believed to breed several times a year! They also have heart-shaped pupils! A great toad for Valentine's Day! (photo by Giacomo Gola)

Our friend the Hispaniolan Armored Toad was first described in 2018 and is only known from a single location in the Dominican Republic! Their skin is very rough and bumpy, and they have prominent armored ridges on their head, giving them their name! (photo by Judá Isaí Martínez Uribe)

They are not, but the California Toad, Anaxyrus boreas halophilus, sometimes has similar coloration!

In 2025 the Puerto Rican music artist Bad Bunny released an album named DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS! Videos for this album featured a character named Sapo Concho, named after the real life Sapo Concho, the endangered Puerto Rican Crested Toad!

Our friend the North American Green Toad lives in a large area between northern Mexico and the south-central United States! They are also known as the Chihuahuan Green Toad! They have two recognized subspecies, the Eastern Green Toad and the Western Green Toad! (photo by Jorden Perrett)

Our friend Lau's Leaf Litter Toad lives in Hong Kong and is known to perform sex-reversed inguinal amplexus, where the female mounts the male from behind and holds his waist while laying her eggs! (photo by C.H.Leung)

Our friend the Dixie Valley Toad lives in a small area of wetlands in the Dixie Valley in northern Nevada! They were first described as a new species in 2017 and immediately placed on the endangered species list to protect their home, which is under threat due to development! (photo by Yinan Li)

Our friend the Betic Midwife Toad lives in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of southern Spain! Like other midwife toads, males collect fertilized eggs and wrap them around their hind legs to keep them safe until they are ready to hatch! (photo by Víctor González García)

There is! The Cuban Long-nosed Toad is a very rare toad only known from three widely separated populations in Cuba! They are also known as Stejneger's Caribbean Toad!

There are many toads with much longer noses though, such as some in the genus Rhinella, the beaked toads!

Our friend the Eastern Narrow-mouthed Toad is a small toad who lives in the eastern United States from Maryland to Florida! They love to eat ants and have developed a fold of skin on their back that can extend to cover their eyes to protect from bites while feeding! (photo by Dominic)

They were described as a new species at the same time as our friend the Railroad Valley Toad, who only lives in the neighboring Railroad Valley! They were both once considered isolated populations of the Western Toad until they were separated into their own species!
