Engineer. Sports fan. Trying to create a new community here, with what’s happened to the other site.
Just finished Taran’s “Behind the Mirror”. Highly recommend! I listened to the audiobook and his decade of podcasting really paid off. Beautifully narrated, beautifully written.

Congratulations @taranarmstrong.bsky.social. It’s been nice following your work (since 2017).

Been watching the #RHAP LFC stockwatch since 2017. It’s amazing to see how far it’s come and the work Taran has been doing to make it insightful and entertaining. Thanks for the coverage @taranarmstrong.bsky.social and @itsmelissaaa.bsky.social It’s been a such an enjoyable listen.

Despite his abysmal social and strategic game, Keanu was still one of the favorites to win this season just by virtue of the comps. I think the fact that that’s possible is an indictment on the game mechanics. #BB27

I don’t know how Sean had the patience to sit through the whole thing. Frustrating at times but watching Sean’s expressions made it entertaining 😂
I went on Piers Morgan to talk with Eric Weinstein. Not a productive conversation, alas.

Need to make myself spend more time on here. I can’t believe what has happened to the other app. It’s so bad.

Step 1: Elon takes over Twitter, unbans and amplifies the worst white nationalist posters, methodically turns it into a right wing echo chamber.

Step 2: Users who aren’t white nationalists or MAGA extremists leave for Bluesky en masse.

Step 3: op-ed columnists fret, “is Bluesky an echo chamber?”

So of course we need both scientific institutions that stay above the partisan fray and work to advance knowledge as apolitically as possible; *and* individuals and other institutions that work politically to advance science and defend its values.

Two ideas! We can do it.

Let's see if we can hold two ideas simultaneously:

1. Science is of course "neither red nor blue." It's about understanding nature, not partisan agendas.
2. Science is of course "political." Politics is how we make collective decisions, including concerning science.

Science is neither red nor blue
Long before the 5 November US presidential election, I had become ever more concerned that science has fallen victim to the same political divisiveness tearing at the seams of American society. This i...

Matt Gaetz as Attorney General, Tulsi Gabbard in charge of National Intelligence and now RFK Jr in charge of health. This is a full on clown show. It’d be funny if it wasn’t genuinely dangerous.
