So true! Imo, observability is a reverse exponential, if you have 1 or 2 obvs metrics then it’s really helpful, but any more and they become unhelpful

CI/CD I understand that making deployments easier but we do tend to over complicate the steps!

But it’s a fantastically well written article by the way 😀

I think you’re right, the issue is that ownership doesn’t always translate to understanding. Using AI, it’s imperative that you understand why AI is giving that solution. Tools like Claude and Devin take away that understanding and so it doesn’t matter if you own it it’s going to cause issues later

If you go outside the AI’s context window it becomes impossible

Instagram is an interesting point. In 2010-2011 they were using EC2 instances and they manually added more or less instances based on traffic, they did this manually but they where doing what kube would do but with VM’s. It’s worth mentioning that Insta was a monolith at the time. Made it easier

That is something that we can agree on!

…Git is a great example. For a single webpage, maybe you’d save it in Git but what’s the point if you’re not going to make changes. But at a larger scale it becomes essential.

…Are all these applications worth It on a small scale? No way as you say, you’re better off with the fundamentals.
But it’s at larger scales that problems appear that are by these solutions…

…How do you actually make sure that your application is deploying correctly every time? Ansible (although this is a stretch tbh)
How do I get my application to be reactive and stateful? React…
December 3, 2025 at 7:53 PM
…suddenly you run into issues:
How do you make sure all your services are up and running, with a rollback strategy if they fail? K8s
How do I make sure my JS is correct at build time rather than runtime? TS…
December 3, 2025 at 7:53 PM
…But if you scale the issue up to where you have a full weather app, where you have multiple technologies, services, and integrations…
