lovely photo! it's a 'Mule' - domestic Mallard x Muscovy, the bill markings are pretty diagnostic for this hybrid, and the plumage indicates domestic 'scovy parentage too. they are invariably infertile (hence the name) so a lot are abandoned in wild duck flocks.

wonderful spread of species. out of interest, do you find ducks easy to dazzle? I've heard they can be tricky, but I ring at sites where it probably could be done. (all of the wildfowl I ring are hand caught by day!)

also singing: Great Tit, Dunnock, Wren. A very calm, still morning. Signs of spring in abundance. Canada Geese pairing up and falling out, too.

top work. was the 2005 Canada the regular bird at Regents? I don't think it goes more than 100 metres from that bench, ever...
