This is true. The only real difference between then and now is the speed at which information can spread. If the internet had been around in the 1930, the Nazi's would have been stopped a LOT sooner.

There absolutely is a reason for it - make number go up. That's it. This is driven by making sure the investors earn their .5 cents per share every quarter. Nevermind that they're destroying the working class by doing it because investors don't give a fuck as long as "number goes up".
