The C-suite is a wasted step as well. Or, in the off chance the CEO cares, schedule that as an onboarding call. A “welcome to the org”.

Tech has it all wrong and has had it all wrong for years. HR are the insurance for the org, and your job doesn’t care about you. Layoffs are always imminent.

Round 2: Talk directly with a couple of team members.

Round 3: Talk with the Senior manager or Head of the dept.

You don’t need to talk to a recruiter so they can “get a feel” for anything. Wasted step there.

You don’t need to talk to a C-suite because let’s face it. 99 out of 100 don’t care.

It says, your company has no clue what they want, the company is a mess, and if you need more than three calls with a candidate, you’re going to be one of the worst cases of stress, worry, and burnout you could possibly be.

I unpack it like this:

Round 1: Talk directly with team manager.

Then, we can do a review, see where you stand. If you’re doing the work, you get another year to either get up-to-speed or keep doing the fantastic work you’re doing.

If the struggle is real, maybe the role wasn’t for you.

But these 4+ interview sessions w/companies only says a few things to me.

I think you cannot measure a candidate for a dev job on “what is it when someone mentions ___?” and you find yourself in the middle of a quiz. I really don’t.

I believe the proof is in the work. Show me that you can do the job. And I’ll give you 6-12 months to get acclimated to the role.

I thoroughly love how Windows 11 just stops responding, everything gets all screwy, and then I have to restart the computer to fix it in the middle of getting my work or stuff done. LOVE IT!

It's like the ex you had that left you for another because they thought that other is better than you. Then they show up and offer you another chance.

Got a generic, boilerplate rejection email a few minutes ago for a role I applied for LAST YEAR. So I sent a response back and probably will send it to every generic, boilerplate template rejection response I get from now on when in the off-chance I do apply somewhere. I'm tired, boss. For the people that I know who are not tech savvy or had any dev experience, it's a blocker on how to set up an account. It is not accessible at all for that reason alone.

Techies have made it not fun because it is just an extension of socials. One rest stop in the Oregon Trail of tech.
