We’re living in a time where it’s hard to know what’s true. But we should be able to trust that our governments are fact-checking environmental claims before repeating them to the public.

We have more information on this issue for you here:

This is why we need #watchdog groups like TEA! Corporate lobbyists throw inflated and sometimes outright false claims at governments constantly. If no one challenges those claims, this misinformation can end up going right into government documents. ⬇️
toenviro.bsky.social
Last week TEA spoke up again about greenwashing & false claims in the City’s materials that make #incineration, a toxic #climatedisaster, sound like “clean energy”.

Evidence shows the opposite. Councillors listened with Councillor Morley requesting a review of how this happened. ⬇️

The City wants your feedback on stronger tree protection bylaws!

Tell the City that you support steeper fines for illegal tree removals and bylaws to protect more trees.

You can show up to an open house in person or take a survey online here: https://loom.ly/VIJcqig 🌳

This new report shows we're moving in the wrong direction.

The changes we are seeing are scary but we have solutions to this health and climate crisis and together we can make it happen. Follow us and join our work!

CBC's article: www.cbc.ca/news/science...
Wildfire smoke over the City of Toronto skyline. Text in the image is of the CBC article with the headline: Wildfires are reversing Canada's progress on improving air quality. Subheading says: Air pollution is like the zombie that we though we had killed,' says expert.

Quote from article says: And it turns out Canada experienced its worst air pollution levels that year since 1998, according to a new report released today by the University of Chicago's Air Quality Life Index (AQLI). At the same time, the report found that pollution levels didn't change much for the rest of the world in 2023.

If those levels continued for a person's lifetime, the average Canadian would lose roughly two years of their life expectancy, according to the report.

I’m at the Ontario Legislative building right now supporting a province-wide coalition calling on a series of measures to provide cooling in indoor spaces.

While we cut emissions from sources like oil and gas, we need to protect everyone from extreme weather.

Summer should be a time to enjoy being outside, not feel anxiety & isolation under smoky skies.

It's ok to feel like this isn't normal. These #wildfires are fueled by tinder dry forests from a warming planet. To fight them, we must stop burning climate-heating fossil fuels.

But you're not alone!

You spoke up demanding bus and streetcar lanes on Bathurst and Dufferin, and yesterday, Council heard you!
There's more work ahead, but this is an important step forward in moving more people faster and accelerating climate action. https://loom.ly/ame8Tu4

If you are one of the 75,000 people who take the TTC on Dufferin & Bathurst every day, you know this view: stuck in traffic.

We urge Council to support these vital transit lanes today including plans from @MayorOliviaChow & @BravoDavenport to get moving on lanes north of Bloor.

Mayor Chow's Executive Committee just approved the first steps in the #RapidTO surface transit network. Now we need to make sure that City Council passes the dedicated lanes on Bathurst & Dufferin.

Everyone deserves reliable transit!

Toronto needs more dedicated transit lanes to move more people. Toronto Region Board of Trade just endorsed both Bathurst & Dufferin #RapidTO lanes up to Eglinton.

Their message?

These lanes are good for business because they are proven to reduce congestion. We need these lanes! #topoli
A statement posted to linked by the Toronto Region Board of Trade which reads:
"Congestion is the top challenge facing Toronto today, already costing businesses valuable time and lost revenue. While we recognize prioritizing transit on Dufferin and Bathurst as a step in the right direction, we recommend that City officials revisit and expand the proposed hashtag#RapidTO plan to include a connection to Eglinton, which will soon host the Crosstown LRT.

Some local businesses have raised legitimate concerns about reduced car access; however, it is clear that the bigger problem facing businesses in the core is gridlock. With the FIFA World Cup on the horizon, pressure on our already overloaded transportation network will only increase. We must move forward with bold, evidence-based solutions to get people and goods moving efficiently along Toronto’s vital arterial roads." -- Giles Gherson, President & CEO, Toronto Region Board of Trade

- Good for our climate
- Life-changing for riders packed into slow buses & streetcars on these busy routes!
