Yeah, I don't really do social media, but BTS, books, theatre, and a desire to find some unbiased news brought me here.
Canadian, she/her/they, still trying to figure things out.
Spindle's End by Robin McKinley.

What if Sleeping Beauty were a girl who wanted nothing to do with anything remotely princess-like and whose personality defied all the gifts wished for her at her birth? Leisurely narrative with a delightful twist.

Persuasion by Jane Austen.

Because everyone deserves a do-over after having to live with the consequences of making the wrong choice. A lovely, mature, second-chance romance about forgiveness, hope, and quietly intense joy.

The Masqueraders by Georgette Heyer.

I love a good Heyer. For this one, think Twelfth Knight but both brother and sister switch gender performances. The secondary romance is a bit iffy in terms of ethics but the central romance is glorious.

The Moon-Spinners by Mary Stewart (with the specific cover I read).

Really almost any Mary Stewart. Some dated language and occasional period-typical offensive moments, but a young woman traveling in Greece gets caught up in hijinks with a handsome injured man. Adventure, intrigue, light romance.

The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery.

A standalone romance not connected to Anne or Emily. Second chances and the happiness of learning to speak your mind and damn the outraged, small-minded relatives.

Summers at Castle Auburn by Sharon Shinn.

My kind of cozy fantasy, involving enslaved elves, corrupt leaders, coming of age, gender roles, and the slow growth into rebellion. Sweet and savoury at the same time.

It should be said that I posted this after being offline for a while & not having heard any recent news. If anything has happened recently that bears a resemblance in any way to this thought experiment, any connection was wholly unintended & unaware. This is purely a Star Trek musing.

I would watch the hell out of that. Show a tragedy that yanks the rug out from under characters we've grown to know & love, & let us see them fight back despite the odds. Intercut season 4 with fictional media coverage-neutral & biased & clinical and exploitative. Earn the story of Tarsus IV.

Terror and death and hope and despair.
A final climax with almost everyone dead and Starfleet arriving with only 9 children left alive. This is not a happy ending.
...Okay, maybe a 4th season of the fallout and investigations and beginnings of recovery and reintegration, to give us some relief. +

Season 3 opens with a double-episode of mass slaughter & the escape of a group of children. We hear the troubled boy's full name - Jim Kirk - for the first time.
Season 3 deals with the survival on the run of these kids & their rebellion.
See the resistance and lack of it in the adults. +

Reveal the charismatic man with the persuasive nature to be Kodos.
A general sense of unease.
Ramp up focus on the kids, emphasizing red flags in dialogue.
End season 2 with Kodos announcing there isn't enough food to survive long enough for help to arrive. He announces 4000 must be eliminated. +

At the end of the first season, show a fungus affecting the crops. Maybe for the first time have someone mention the Federation.
Have season 2 be about the steady increase in concerns about food, people starting to argue about who is in charge, what to do. +

Take the time to build characters and relationships.
Have a charismatic male adult slowly coming to the fore.
Focus on families, friendships, realistic kids we care about.
An elderly woman befriending a troubled, isolated boy and teaching him languages. Reveal her name after a while to be Hoshi. +
