oh, ok, sure... these are those pesky interesting times I was hoping to avoid living through... but i hope there are some discussions happening, the results of which will be the diplomatic equivalent of 'back off orange boy because collectively we have more firepower than you want to mess with.'

fair point but isn't it still a case of history rhyming if not precisely repeating? enabling Trump just encourages him.

if we were to stand aside while Greenland was invaded how far would we allow this to go before we said enough? when he decides to rename Scotland the Trump Golf Preserve?

it's not like there's no precedent here... the universe where we don't defend Denmark is the one in which some day soon Starmer will have in his hand a piece of paper...

but there's no appeasing Trump, he'll always want more, so maybe stand with our allies while we still have allies to stand with?

the lengths they'll go to to protect Trump...

with my conspiratorial hat on... maybe the same people lurking behind the black bars in the Epstein docs? does turning a blind eye to the perversions of other powerful people become habitual after a while? a cost of doing business.

the whole point is to listen to something that interests you on your headphones while you... take a walk, juggle, wash up, sit in the garden and chill, cook... whatever...

it's an alternative to audio content not visual...

Fastest way to lose me as a listener is to coerce me into becoming a viewer… have you any idea how dangerous it is to go for a walk while watching a podcast?
December 27, 2025 at 1:19 PM
thanks Robert - i've learned something today. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
December 24, 2025 at 8:48 PM
appreciate you taking the time to clarify - so on the record but not recorded?
if you don't mind me asking... in your experience were people scrupulous about the reporting (and if not would other lobby members call them out?)
December 24, 2025 at 6:02 PM
i may have misunderstood - i thought the complaint was the removal of off the record briefings... i would be all for them being replaced by on the record briefings. off the record briefings used to server a purpose but like so many things they devalued when the good chaps rule went bye bye.

Doesn’t the lobby system rely on the press being honest about what they are briefed, that may have been true in those days but a significant chunk of the the modern press can’t be trusted so doesn’t the lobby only enable their lies to stay in the dark.

that image makes slave transportation appear quite cosy - notoriously it wasn't. whoever OK'd that image needs to read some history.

A handy gauge located on the forearm would be useful!

I see a press too often trying to score cheap points, seeking salacious gossip and reframing whatever you hear to support preset editorial narratives. too often the UK media tries to create news instead of reporting news. it's hard to see this as journalism that serves me.

you are, after all, the party who include among their economic acts giving away our creative industry's entire body of work to foreign based businesses who don't pay tax... genius!
December 20, 2025 at 11:40 AM
an economist should recognise that the balance between business, state and people has been lost and the party we elected to fix this, your good selves, are failing to take corrective action while the trend continues. when mainstream parties let people down they turn elsewhere.

i searched for Trump and an ICE team landed on our front lawn... in Wiltshire... something's up...

and yes, for the serious types, i did make this up. No-one can afford a front lawn any more.

i'm not a lawyer so anything else here is probably nonsense but....

surely he only has a claim if the US electorate all saw the show which would mean each voting adult owes the BBC £1,000 or the US owes us £152bn. We'll pay him the £10bn if they pay us the £152bn in fines.
December 16, 2025 at 10:21 AM
when you put it like that she doesn't sound ideal :)

but that still leaves a few hundred possibilities who might show up and actually do the damn job.
December 14, 2025 at 7:59 AM
Thangam would gave been solid I think. Don’t know enough about her sex work opinions to have an opinion. I can appreciate Nandy’s preferred brief lay elsewhere but if you get given a ministerial role surely you give it your all or you resign and let someone else take a swing at it.
December 13, 2025 at 10:53 PM
meanwhile the mystery of what on earth Lisa Nandy is paid for continues.
December 13, 2025 at 5:02 PM
i'm sorry, but i'll be busy gouging out my own kidneys with a rusty spanner.
