I love this short poem from Walt Whitman: “Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?"

I had to read deep into this obit to learn that the woman who wrote the best-seller “Codependent No More" had a connection to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. One of the many reasons the NYTimes is great www.nytimes.com/2025/03/07/h...

I covered the press conference when Nita Lowey announced in 1988 she was running for the House. I was the only one there and for years after when I saw her, she'd mention that, always with a smile and sometimes with a hug. A terrific politician and a warm human being www.nytimes.com/2025/03/16/u...

Good news that Democrat Ken Jenkins beat a MAGA Republican by 64% to 36% in a special election yesterday for Westchester County Executive. (Harris won here, 63-37.)

An inch of fresh snow fell last night. A red fox just ambled past, slowing to check out the bird feeder.

About 2 dozen juncos are scurrying under the feeder. Tiny frozen pellets are changing to snowflakes although the precipitation is still audible. Not a bad start to the morning.

Happy to hear and see a common raven calling for attention from the top of a white pine when I went out to fill the bird feeder this morning.

Congratulations to @joannawu.bsky.social, @brookebateman.bsky.social et al for 'A focus on females can improve science and conservation,' published in Ibis. Were honored that both of them have been part of Young, Gifted & Wild About Birds. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
A focus on females can improve science and conservation

I saw the transformation of Twitter/X into a hellhole as a way to take back part of my life from social media. But now I've given in to BlueSky.
