If he is a Northwestern professor, it's NU, not NWU; never heard anyone who has ever had any exposure to NU call it NWU (class of 74 myself).

Today in print they devote two full pages to the GGs, 3 articles. They had a preview yesterday. All while no mention of the far more valid New York Film Critics. No mention of LA either. Blame the editors, not the critics or writers.

This wouldn't matter except that my doctor is exceptional, I'm very lucky to have him (luck of the insurance carrier draw)

There are predictions that both Las Vegas and Phoenix could run out of water in a generation. I live in the desert (Palm Springs) but we draw most of our water from the aquafier under us. The only problem is that in a once in a millenium earthquake we might become a swamp.

Looking for faint hope: could local authorities prosecute some of these people? Kidnapping? Assault? On the financial side? If Ghislaine Maxwell is pardoned, potential state charges?

They are always given by the president to the honorees in the White House the day before. Obama did this. Biden did this. Then the show the next night at the center. Trump did it in the Oval Office, was tacky. Usually in the Eastroom. But otherwise what they always do.

It's also the time to remember that most voters have not yet seen most of the contenders. Sometimes when a film gets too much praise, it sets expectations too high. I don't know if Battle is on the platform yet, but at least it has been out for nearly 3 months & I imagine a lot of them have seen it.

To note - Paramount has the powerful Larry Ellison & like Trump himself the idiot nepobaby son David on its side, but WB Discovery has power behind the scenes John Malone, another right wing billionaire oligarch who has been at this far longer than the Ellisons. I bet Malone set up the meeting.

Ya think?

I remember; this is going on 6 hours now

I've always read "eat" here as "mingle with my fellow voters to strategize"

Also read earlier today that Ted Sarandos met with Trump in last view days. I suspect that woud have been arranged via WB Discovery overlord John Malone, a right wing oligarch himself. That to some extent mitigates the Ellison insider advantage.

The awards are always given out the day before at the White House. Obama did it, Biden did it. They are not given out at the Kennedy Center event. Yes Trump's presentation was tacky, but it was the normal way.

I don't see that number elsewhere

It's THIEL (pronounced TEEL), not Theil

This seems to be inaccurate. PBS had an article yesterday saying there is a gala, and will be on CBS later this month. It is true ticket sales have been bad since Trump took over. www.npr.org/2025/12/05/n...
The Kennedy Center Honors are coming up. This year's event will be different
President Trump has made major changes at the Kennedy Center this year, ousting the board chair and president, and naming himself host of the organization's yearly awards show.

The winners those years were mostly people who clearly weren't MAGA. This is the first time he had a hand in who won.

The show is on CBS, usually the Sunday after Xmas. The broadcast rights for the show are a big part of the center's revenue. I assume there is one this year. I imagine part of the reason Trump didn't attend previous years is that it was on weekend when he was in Florida, inconvenient for him.
