Now Trump wants to undo the Smithsonian Institution by inserting phony "improper ideology" claims. Bad enough that he knows nothing about art and culture and what makes life worth living. Now he wants to insert his ignorance where it is so misplaced as to make blissful ignorance seem wise folly.

Of all Trump's recent travesties, I implore you not to overlook what he has done at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, one once-singular institution bent on making America great while bettering life for all Americans and promoting American achievement for all to see and hear and explore.

Who does Donald Trump think he is? Who gave him authority to tell me which language I can use, which one is "official"? According to whom—the Constitution? No. Philosophers? No. Poets? The day he outthinks me, I might fall for that line of BS. I hope Congress reclaims its spent authority . . . soon.

We need a reminder that there were—and are—valid reasons the Founders did not give the President a line-item veto over spending. With such financial power, Hamilton and Madison pointed out in the Federalist Papers, the President could set up alliances and curry favors that would make him "king."

Just a note (and sorry for any interruption) letting everyone, anyone, or whoever know that I am now on Bluesky. I wonder whether the butterfly logo refers to Xerces Blue (Glaucopsychexerces—I did not have that taxonomy memorized, BTW, but would love to italicize it; IYKYK).
