unsurprisingly juvenile, surprisingly dull

I think the controversy around this is far more interesting than the movie itself

second time seeing The Testament of Ann Lee this morning and all my reservations on first watch melted away

a miraculous tale of radical evangelical celibacy and spontaneous dancing and singing

feels a bit unfair to include Die My Love on the 'box office bomb' write-up - did anyone ever anticipate a Lynne Ramsay movie about postpartum psychosis being a big hit??

seriously concerned what the cancellation of Wong Kar Wai might mean for The Prince Charles Cinema programmers

overindulged in the Criterion UK sale but I’ve been waiting for this for a LONG time - only double dip is Night Moves and I’ve just donated the Blu to Oxfam…

that's twice in three weeks I've seen trailers for high profile movies, not out 3-4 months, advertised on TNT Sports during the football...

honest question - are Trojans renowned for their work ethic? I thought they were more famed for their ability to be duped by hollowed-out farmyard statues

Love+War - a documentary about conflict photographer Lynsey Addario - is also out in the UK today and I quite liked it.

“Hugo? Who’s he?”

apart from omitting the only ‘kids film’ Marty ever made, this is an amazing and enthralling five part documentary on the king of modern cinema

I want to rewatch his whole filmography now

ouch

Daniel Day-Lewis's 'comeback film' Anemone is not out in UK cinemas until November 7

here's my 41-movie #LFF ranking - I caught Die My Love before the festival at an advance screening

(rankings are a stupid way of judging art etc etc)

I liked Lurker! Fairly familiar ground but has a nice 2025 edge. A bit All About Eve, a bit Baby Reindeer and, oddly, a bit Phantom Thread.

should have been a shorter summer! I found this a chore really. Demands a lot of the audience and maybe I just didn’t have the patience. Some striking imagery and a bit of a whiff of The Zone of Interest about it.

fucked up movie about a fucked up life that leans into some filmmaking cliches regarding memoir adaptation BUT I really liked it - best performance of Imogen Poots’s career as well

just picking up this thread to say Bugonia is sad and stupid and I didn’t really like it #LFF

nice and dark humour

Second film of #LFF

liked this a lot but the ending montage felt a bit tacked-on

it does have that Sean Baker energy though

First film of #LFF

An intriguing movie with interesting ideas and a strong central performance ultimately doesn’t quite know how to resolve itself or what it’s saying
