as i said, it’s complicated. as sinclair lewis wrote, when people’s livelihoods are at stake, they can believe anything. especially if they never had any principles or morals.

i’m never sure if they are sincere or disingenuous in their rejection of reality. definitely motivated reasoning, probably self-delusion, also likely a cynical attempt to mold reality, especially among the weak-minded and ill-informed.

Senate Democrats are much less unified (because much less unifiable) than Republicans. Democrats exist on a much broader spectrum than Republicans. Unfortunately, they defer to their most moderate colleagues too often; and, of course, the Republicans HAVE no moderates.
