I don’t know how much it changes things, but in years past they took chances on talent like Reilly Smith and Blake Wheeler who had proven track records. Kreider is traded and no one even close is brought in to try and make up those goals.

To that point, their strategy from beginning was having Zibanejad on wing. Injury to Trocheck made them deviate from that. Miller hasn’t been right all season. Panarin has been up and down. Cuylle was sick to start. Laf had a poor start too.
