Big non nuclear submarines for export, but none proven or commissioned yet; and Australia had bigger dreams for non nuclear submarine designs during Rudd, Gillard and Turnbull years (+ wanted to build them ‘all’ in Osborne?). Morrison just went full nuclear on them all (and sits happy till his 70s).

Dreams of jumbo non-nuclear powered subs (bigger than Collins class), 2008-2019 (The more formal Strategic Partnering Agreement (SPA) with France’s Naval Group was signed under the subsequent government on February 11, 2019).

everytime I see the guy’s face, I think he looks like a huckster, but 8.75 years of PMs (minus Abbott) got dreams of jumbo non-nuclear subs. If you want jumbo non nuclear subs, even now, Japan is the way to go. Jumbo South Korean, French, and TKMS (type 212 CDs, for NATO countries) not exported yet.

Nice submarines (or course, sooner or later some of the missiles and torpedos are going to aim at the Chinese Navy). And Australia wants 2 refurbished ones by 2040. Maybe that is a best case scenario (hope). interestingengineering.com/military/wor...

If Australia really believes in Saab designs and can’t do full LOTE on first sub (Farncomb), it might as well seek Saab Kockums hulls out of Sweden and work from there, for 6 replacement subs (6 commissioned by early 2040s).
