Frum also said that it was the right time for the Democrats to give in because it hurt mostly the Republicans and that if the shutdown had gone too long, it would've ended up hurting the Dems. Frum is a neoconservative Republican who is also a Never Trumper. His writing on the Atlantic is great.

Hi John. Day before yesterday, I listened to David Frum's podcast on the Atlantic site. He basically said the same thing, and pointed out that when Biden put it forward during/after the pandemic, it was not intended to run forever.
