PhD student at OSU AEDE. I study AFOLU emissions reduction schemes and want to study energy. Mostly I used Twitter for politics and space and war stuff, I figure this will be much the same ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

When teams do this, is there ever any expo game or scrimmage or anything for the hosting city? I have ecuadorian cousins who would probably love to see a public event here in town.

I looked it up and she is running pretty tight against Stratton, so the case isn't as strong as I thought. But they're obviously splitting the vote against an inferior candidate (I guess he's fine). Gosh we need better electoral systems

Shouldn't Kelly drop?

Just frustrating that the most craven attention-seekers all climb over each other while the better options all declined.

Hard to see Steyer making it ahead of Swalwell and Porter, but maybe? I don't know the state I guess.

Seems that way, but like half of them need to drop to prevent lock-out

I take your point, but *is it* their strategy? I don't think it is.

I do think it's useful to have a term for the kinds of people who are just kinda around any administration doing various this and that. If not Czar (for these purposes I don't see people use the "proper" anglicization), something else

I'm always astonished by my standard of living as a grad student. I can live like this on a near-poverty line stipend? It's amazing. That said, I don't have kids and I wouldn't have half the luxury I have without student discounts.

This is a weird race because most of them seem alright to good? I like Biss but who do you want, as a Chicagoan (Chicagolander?)

(I don't actually care how left the next president is but she does. I want him to be the next president because he seems the most likely to bring fire and brimstone down on the people fucking up my country, which isn't exactly a left-right thing)

And now that we're wish casting, I want her to push her support behind an electable progressive. I want to believe that means Pritzker, who seems credibly to the left of basically everyone in that poll.

I mean, Schumer retiring would be even better for sure.
February 4, 2026 at 11:46 PM
I think she'd be wise to skip a run and primary Schumer. Her ideology isn't easy to win with for now and she builds her profile better.

I think my challenge with US urban living centers on private green space; if I wanted to garden but otherwise live in dense urban space I don't always feel like there are good options

I mean, I agree but we were always going to need to compete in TX, FL, GA

(Then) reddish Ohio suburb. It was taught to me as a "this can happen anywhere" thing. That was a pretty uniquely good teacher in the system tho

I think this is sadly necessary, right? We will have to make new journalistic institutions to replace, but creative destruction will exact a cost on Bezos and that's good.
