Their whole mindset includes never admitting out loud you're wrong for anything, ever. That would be showing weakness and that you were wrong about something, which is obviously unacceptable. If you have to be wrong, do it quietly, after people have stopped caring, and be louder about something else

To sign and build the best team that ownership is affording you. I'm sure the dynamics between a GM and owner are weird, but why not take advantage of what you are given?

That's not even the most infuriating take. I sincerely believe people like Stearns and (usually) Elias and Zaidi want to win by being clever and outsmarting their peers by finding "deals" or diamonds in the rough, instead of taking the Friedman approach and simply using your smarts AND resources

Hopefully sooner than later. Losing to a guy who doesn't even call baseball regularly anymore is a pretty bad look. There are many deserving candidates, celebrating people while they're still around to appreciate it should be a priority.

it should be a Serial style dramatized podcast

then you'd have to rival Grant in his mission to see Wilco. I travel for business a lot as well, not nearly as much as a baseball writer, so i feel some of the pain

can we get you on the roundtable to rival andy and his travel stories

they stacked the deck for Mattingly and he didn't get elected, only Kent. times are weird at the HoF right now, nobody can deny that.
December 8, 2025 at 5:03 AM
excusing any rule breaking or cheating or whatever, but it's very clear the HoF is willing to manipulate its own rules and draw new lines to prevent them from being elected and giving speeches and getting plaques. this last round was some writers, but more execs, other HoFs, and other luminaries. 4/

became a thing. again, this is all unilateral by the HoF. the BBWAA voted for making all votes public, and that request was denied by the HoF. i'm sure many younger/more online writers would have loved to be able to vote for the steroid era titans, but had the rug pulled out by the HoF. i'm not 3/

the ballot, so that by the time the newer generation was able to vote (right now), those players would be all off the ballot by years or being elected. now that these guys are all on the vet committee ballots, total votes were reduced, eras were changed and expanded, and "permanent ineligibility" 2/
December 8, 2025 at 5:03 AM
the writers aren't making the rules. the HoF makes the rules that the writers vote on for the normal ballot. it used to be 15 years of eligibility on the ballot, then once they allowed bloggers and not just newspaper writers, it got changed to 10 years, conveniently exactly when they all came on 1/
December 8, 2025 at 5:03 AM
and they changed the vet committee voting rules (4 votes to 3, changing the eras, making "permanently ineligible" a thing), as soon as Bonds and Clemens were going to start appearing on that ballot
December 8, 2025 at 2:00 AM
it's almost like they keep changing the rules to make it harder for Bonds and Clemens to get in

Well, it's not like they have any salary to relieve without incurring a grievance from the union, so...

I've found just using forks is pretty reliable. You get great control and feel of how tender the meat is
December 5, 2025 at 4:03 AM
I feel like people think WAR overemphasizes certain things because there are so many players that are bad at walking and stealing bases that when a player that is really good at both of those things comes along it can be an outsized contribution

I deal with Japanese people, companies, and brands a lot through work. I swear there are some people who purposefully say stuff wrong because they want someone to correct them and then they get to say "whatever, you know what I meant" since they don't think it matters.

Brainstorm off of Favourite Worst Nightmare is also fantastic
