There’s a whole chapter in my book about these digital resurrection / zombie / necromancy practices and why they are harmful. Just let people rest in peace.

“The popular post prompted others online to weigh in, saying that they resent living in a world where they never know if they're being recorded.”

this kind of digital resurrection is exactly what i raise concerns about/warn against in RESURRECTING THE BLACK BODY — a digital afterlife with no agency, a (re)product(ion) with no moral code or compass, a (mis)representation

“Effective July 7, the National Archives at College Park, MD, will become a restricted-access federal facility with access only for visitors with a legitimate business need. It will no longer be open to the general public.”

So Ancestry is out here registering trademarks for “archives”? Cool, cool. Everything is fine. Privatizing NARA will be great for society. /s

Something tells me this isn’t about the showerheads but instead about other things encapsulated in the definitions.

On a day when lives, libraries, books, and the humanities are under attack across the country, it was such a balm to receive, open, and spend some time with an offering as beautiful as Sarah Ensor’s Queer Lasting. 💜

My students have been asking about self-care, balance, staying present, not burning out. For me: this morning I took a long, hot bath & did some yoga. Now I’m curling up with this fuzzy blanket & these three books. Later, I’ll make some pasta, maybe from scratch, with Alfredo sauce & a big salad.

There’s a chapter in my book Resurrecting the Black Body that addresses these exact concerns. We all deserve to have the right to be remembered, and the right to be forgotten. Either way, these are human emotions, and must be treated as such.

October 17, 2023 at 4:14 PM
It’s officially PUB DAY on the east coast, so here I am with my first book and the first person I befriended in my first college class (Women’s Bodies, Women’s Lives), the inimitable Tucker G. Perry. 💜

As @shilorae.bsky.social reminded me, rest is essential to creative production. Today I have the outline of my next book project because last week I listened to the waves, didn’t answer my phone or check email, and got some long overdue sleep.
