I think you are wrong. Social security was implemented in 1935. The start of the social safety net is routed in the Great Depression. Medicare comes on board as part of LBJs great society. These were support programs for the working poor and the just straight poor.

I think there always was a greater sense of societal payback not that it was overwhelming and certainly self aggrandizing. I think part of what changed during FDR was a sense that it was risky to the upper class to not give more support to the middle class.

We’re walking dangerously close to politics here. So for along time there was a sense of societal obligation in the capitalist class. That all started to break down in the eighties. And the increase in international trade in the nineties.

it’s not AI that’s the problem, It’s the way corp America is using AI that’s the problem. If a corp can get 1 guy using AI to replace 3 others and then just downsizes those 3 jobs and shrinks the labor force then that is the problem. Profits above stability in society is modern capitalism’s fail.
