Liverpool is to convert its 20 hydrogen buses, 10 of which have never been on the road, to battery electric. They were obtained in 2021, and have made only 450 passenger journeys between them. Hydrogen may be the most abundant element in the universe, but not on buses.

@bbclaurak.bsky.social You caught her out nicely on the numbers - it's the Reform envy playbook.
If someone whose problems include ADHD legitimately receives the appropriate rate of PIP, they could use that money to lease a car from someone other than Motability. Would she be happy with that?
December 7, 2025 at 9:46 AM
@bbclaurak.bsky.social Helen Whately has fallen into the trap. Motability is not the problem. To get a car, someone has to receive the enhanced mobility component of PIP, and that's what needs looking at, if anything. Some ADHD sufferers qualify because they can't safely go out alone.

I listened to Nigel Farage outlining Reform's plans. It looks as though they will mainly affect four groups:
1) Pensioners
2) Non-pensioners
3) Disabled people
4) Able-bodied people.

Potentially excellent news. I'll look up the plan, but Wylfa, Oldbury, Dungeness, Hartlepool, Trawfynydd (apologies if I pronounced it wrong), Cottam and others could be earmarked for new nuclear. Which makes sense.

Time for heresy. PIP has suffered from mission creep and the idea for reform by the government was right. PIP was introduced because DLA had become too widespread, PIP has followed suit. Not helped by lack of face to face assessment. PIP is essential, but only for the right reasons.

Why report a perfectly mundane annual event like everyone else when you can ponce it up with the sort of headline that frightens pensioners? Shake up?

Not before time. This was always a daft idea, highly implausible, and of benefit only to producers and distributors of gas, who will find their business decimated when we go all-electric.
