When you have too many people opposing you to count:
“The left…”

😅

I see you forgot to include the “existential dread of not being able to juggle all these aspects”

Thank you! This captcha won’t block me again! 😂

We’ve taken for granted that time passing equals progress happening.
But actually every little conquest must be regained again and again.

And it can only be done if people stand together.

Would be perfect if you could rewind even as enemies are attacking you, letting you reload saves from battle or change archetypes and restart battle.

We’ve had a large water glass spilled all over a game board.
But in 20 years of gaming it’s only happened once.

Really nothing to be worried about unless people are very clumsy.

I feel like the next Uno is more a marketing problem than a design problem.

“Anyone” can make a trick taking game with a twist and have done it but entering the zeitgeist is clearly a marketing endeavor.

That would probably be a good name for a Silent Hill monster 😂

Honestly after 2 plays the jokes get dull.
And the players picking who they find most funny just makes you feel bad when people don’t get your jokes ☹️

It’s pretty cool 😄

Anyway, just to make it clear, this is a great discussion and I’m not trying to impose my experience, just sharing it.

Because there will always be someone who tries to take board game pieces or places drinks near the games or that quits mid-game leaving other players hanging.

So for us it’s just an added set of rules to explain as you can’t know the person’s level of social skills.
March 25, 2025 at 9:30 AM
Sure, but those rules are different for everybody.
We explain a lot of board games to newcomers in events and have to explain the etiquette also.
March 25, 2025 at 9:30 AM
Interesting.
I see “etiquette” just as “unwritten rules”.

And act a bit like you in regards to game rules, if people don’t respect them they won’t respect the people at the table either.
March 25, 2025 at 9:22 AM
Videogames need rules because it’s the only way to define them, you don’t have complete freedom in video games because programming is at it’s essence “rules” to make a 100% free game you would paradoxically need a whole lot of rules to be defined.
March 25, 2025 at 9:07 AM
Playing board games it’s very common for people to look for an obscure rules interaction to make sure they can’t exploit the system and make it unfair (or even break the game).
March 25, 2025 at 9:07 AM
Fairness is a big topic when playing because etiquette will only get you so far:
Can you take out a rocket and destroy the enemies in the final castle?
Can you use a spaceship to travel in a fantasy setting?

Defining the boundaries is what makes play fair and that in turn makes it fun for all.
March 25, 2025 at 9:07 AM
Probably 6 at a time. Usually at weekends we start right after lunch and stop for dinner, sometimes we play a smaller game after dinner.
March 25, 2025 at 8:48 AM
In both cases rules are there to make the playing field fair.

Kids playing pretend and discussing what is valid is the reason why rules exist in both those cases.

To turn play a shared experience.
