If they honestly had a better candidate to pick from for whatever the hell their play is now, they'd have been made leader before we'd got as far as Truss. I wouldn't even be surprised if the Tories no longer existed by the next election (not saying that's likely, mind)

Well, I don't know who, specifically, but it seems clear no-one's (successfully) lobbying for a functioning one

I suspect, in part, because it doesn't really serve them at all to solve problems, particularly if the ones the electorate want solving are at odds with the many lobbyists offering cushy post-parliamentary consultancy or director roles.

As they're probably going under 4 mph they're probably on the pavement for the same reason those classes of mobility scooters are, they'd be unsafe on the road.
