for a slightly more aggressive solution, I've disabled auto-detection with this registry edit:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell] "FolderType"="NotSpecified"
(and deleting the contents of "Bags" resets existing folder types)

In Explorer ribbon: 3 dots > Options > View > Apply to Folders, should save the current folder layout (column types, sorting, etc.) to all "music" folders.
The "music" folder layout also makes loading those folders really slow, it's very annoying!

the game is almost entirely custom windows API shenanigans, so it would basically require making it again for linux. but I'll consider it!

steam has an endless number of strange requirements in all sorts of places, it's incredibly frustrating. i always have my tickets resolved or at least answered, some within hours and some after weeks. sorry to hear about this, hopefully it resolves soon!

I think my choice might be moving back to B the longer I look at it, even between the original options. the text stands out better among the details, regardless of how complicated the details are

yeah good points! I think outside of that context I like B better. I do also think the minimal version is good, this capsule image can get pretty small (assuming this is the one that shows in steam search lists). my opinion might be B if the background were even darker, or with a bigger text outline

this is really great. i love the two-wide enemies' inherent allowance with parity. it's a sign the game is tightly designed, that it feels like almost every random chest item lets me solve the room perfectly and no more.
