Started my morning with the Guadalupe Washington Neighborhood Association! I appreciate all the volunteers who came out today — in spite of the gloomy weather — to help clean up the neighborhood.

We had a great turnout at our first D3 Town Hall! Thank you to all our D3 neighbors who came with great questions about what we’re up to at City Hall, and to my amazing team for putting together this event. If you couldn’t make it, we’ll be sending out a recap in our next newsletter.

This week, the San José City Council took the first step towards a policy I’ve been fighting for since I was a planning commissioner.

It was all treats and no tricks as I joined a queen, a witch, and Ted Lasso — I mean, City Manager Jennifer Maguire, City Librarian Jill Bourne, and Assistant City Manager Lee Wilcox — in handing out candy and books to trick or treaters at the MLK Library. 📚 👻 🎃 (1/2)

Ribbon cuttings are one of the best parts of my job, because we get to celebrate folks investing in our city and show everyone that Downtown San José is the place to be. That’s why I was excited to join in welcoming Poppy & Claro to our downtown!

I had the pleasure of taking part in Smith Carlos Day at San Jose State University. Tommie Smith and John Carlos stand as examples to all of us (Spartans or not!) who have a platform. Whether that platform is an Olympic podium or the dais at City Hall, we must use it to forward the cause of justice.

Today we kicked off the Larry Itliong Way project! And what better time to do it than Filipino American History Month? Larry Itliong’s story remains largely forgotten, absent from textbooks and unacknowledged in the places where history is made visible. It’s time to change that.

It’s hockey night in San José! Last night we didn’t just celebrate opening night for the Sharks — we also unveiled the newly renamed Sharks Way. While the Golden Knights were able to steal a win in overtime, we’ll get them next time! 🦈 🏒

My office presented our first proclamation this week in celebration of Filipino American Heritage Month! As San José's first Filipino American councilmember, it was my honor to celebrate the contributions of San José's FilAm community and to be a small piece of that history.

My team and I spent Saturday w/the Japantown Community Congress, having great conversations about the collaborative work these local leaders do in maintaining one of our cultural treasures. Then we took a neighborhood tour, led by Japantown Business Association Vice President Jim Nagreda. (1/2)

Let me be clear: no one in San José should live in fear. As the Trump Administration finds new ways to circumvent the law, we must be ready to fight back.

If you see something, say something. Reach out to the Rapid Response Network about any suspected ICE activity at 408-290-1144.

Last night I had the honor of celebrating my very first Mexican Flag Raising as your Councilmember! This celebration wasn’t just about Mexico’s independence. We recognized the contributions the Mexican community has made to the heart and soul of San José.

Last summer, I visited Toronto alongside a cohort of young leaders from across the country. One was based in Georgia and working to bring the first inclusive playground to the city of Macon. All the way out in Georgia, he had heard about our Rotary PlayGarden here in San José. (1/2)
