Oct 6, 1981: In Moerdijk, Netherlands, NLM Flight 431 flew into a weakening #tornado and lost structural integrity. The wing detached and the plane crashed — all 17 aboard died, along with a firefighter on the ground. buff.ly/cRXVxTj #OTD #tornadohistory

Pinellas Park, FL F3 #Tornado – October 3, 1992!

October 2, 1969! An F2 #tornado cut a 8 mi path from Vaughan, NC, to Lake Gaston. Bethlehem Christian Church lost its front, Grey’s Store lost its roof, barns & timber were destroyed. A witness saw the storm lift “a sheet of water 50 ft high.” No injuries or deaths. buff.ly/ISs1oL9#ncwx

On October 1, 1977, an F3 tornado hit Montfort Heights on the NW edge of Cincinnati near I-74. The most significant damage occurred on Seville Court, where 12 homes were destroyed and 15 others were damaged. 17 people were injured.

An F4 tornado tore across rural NE Polk & W Jasper Cos, IA, leveling 7 homes & badly damaging 5 more. At least 40 homes were hit, but the storm missed towns — no injuries or deaths reported.

Crosstown, MO F4 #Tornado – Sept 22, 2006! A violent F4 tornado carved a 27-mile path from Perry Co, MO into Jackson Co, IL. Winds hit 210 mph near Crosstown, where 62 homes were destroyed.
