Why did cityoftoronto.bluesky.social drop the across-the-board 12 month loss of #short-termrentallicences for STR operators in the revised Chapter 547? Curious, no? Could it have something to do with lawsuits brought against Toronto? That sometimes happens if you torch a person's income...

Still chewing over the email I got from @cityoftoronto.bsky.social Revenue Services where they "sympathized" that I am experiencing "financial hardship". Toronto CAUSED my financial hardship. They destroyed my ability to earn a big chunk of my income. Refused to let me quickly pivot to alternatives.

Planning to visit @cityoftoronto.bsky.social? Better like staying in hotels. The new rules (Chapter 547) have tightened what qualifies for a #shorttermrental even more, as Toronto tries to engineer the city's real estate to meet its definitions. Only one dwelling unit per principal residence. Sad!

Wonder how well Toronto tourism will do in 2025? Still in the doldrums post-pandemic? The shortage of short-term rentals may be a factor, especially since, back in 2022, the STR regime stranded travellers with its mass cancellation tactics. Hmmm... Maybe word got around? @cityoftoronto.bsky.social

Does taking away seniors' livelihoods constitute City Building 101? @cityofto.bsky.social must think so, because they stopped me earning an income. When state-level actors do this to seniors, guess what? Don't be surprised if the seniors end up on the public purse. Your tax $$$ at work, folks!

In @cityofto.bsky.social, a #shorttermrental licence is all about front doors. My neighbour has an STR licence but doesn't live in her STR unit. I lost my licence because I don't live in my unit. Why? She has one outer front door whereas I have two. Yep, that's the difference... seniorundersiege.ca

Too bad @cityofto.bsky.social doesn't understand short- & medium-term rentals and long-term housing aren't the same. STR/MTR are furnished, LTH is unfurnished. In forcing STR operators towards offering LTH, Toronto gives no guidance as to what happens to the furniture. @mayoroliviachow.bsky.social

@cityofto.bsky.social mightn't need as large a property tax hike if it wasn't so busy axing MunicipalAccommodationTax (MAT) income. Any time they close a short-term rental, they lose MAT. A double loss. Fewer places for travellers to stay & less "found money" from visitors, over & above taxpayers.

Rumour has it that @cityofto.bsky.social was using "mystery shoppers" to check up on those who had lost their STR licences. To make sure they weren't renting short-term. If that's true, should Toronto be spending our money that way? Don't we have real problems to solve? seniorundersiege.ca

Toronto labours under the myth that all short-term rentals (STR) were once long-term housing (LTH). Statistics Canada gave the lie to that. Of the STRs across Canada, only 0.69% have potential to be LTH. So why is TO putting so many STRs under? seniorundersiege.ca @mayoroliviachow.bsky.social

Cities, like @cityoftoronto.bsky.social , are supposed to act for the public good. So, where was the public good when Toronto destroyed my retirement income in early 2024? I still haven't been able to figure that out. Maybe someone else can explain it? seniorundersiege.ca
