in the x300's case, yes. in more modern laptop's there is more reasoning for said placement, with cooling being a MUCH bigger issue then it used to be.

if you compare the battery in something like a x13 to to placement of the battery in the x300, its the same spot. below the palmrest. so theres really to excuse to not have a [[easily]] removable battery.
