he is not fantasizing about it. tooze rejects analogies between today and the 30s. he is saying *if* dems who think trump = nazi are right *then* their spectacular failure, in the terms of the analogy, ends with them getting stalin'd. the point for tooze is the analogy *doesnt hold.*

of course this does not mean 'only protecting speech we agree with.' but there is certainly must be some norm (esp for resident deans) of prohibited speech, and that norm has to center around the well-being of students. i don't think it's unreasonable for that norm to not be color-blind.

i think we can offer a reasonable defense of why some kinds of speech that seem to 'target' white students are less harmful and more permissible than some kinds of speech that target black students or other students who on some reasonably standard are made vulnerable by their backgrounds.
