I'll say, Affinity Photo/Designer is a pretty reasonable alternative to Photoshop/Illustrator. They're not free (in both senses of the word), but they're a sensible one-time payment, and reasonable to get working on linux

VSCodium is what you're after. It's just VSCode without the telemetry, and LLM crap disabled by default.

I kinda feel like rhythm games are some of the most important use cases for higher refresh rate displays. I guess it depends on the game, but as an osu! player, 60Hz is night and day.

Depends who you're asking. If you want them to be true, you can argue that there's nothing that falsifies any of them. That's a vacuous truth. Conversely, you can argue that the first two conditions aren't meaningfully satisfed and therefore false.

I'm deliberately avoiding accusations. I'm asking you if that's the comparison you're making.
October 11, 2025 at 9:09 PM
Are you comparing the argument 'All games should be free' to 'I should be able to play the games that I buy'? That seems deliberately reductive, so I do feel the need to make sure I'm not misinterpreting your argument. People repeating arguments isn't what gives them merit, so I guess I agree there.

You can call it an oversimplification, and in my case it probably is. My point is that the movement garnered the support that it has because it isn't a complicated issue to most consumers. If you want to sway their views, you've gotta be saying 'we should do this' instead of just 'don't do that'.

Stop Killing Games is something that people very much support at a theoretical level. If you just say 'it doesn't work at a practical level' and fail to give any alternative, people are going to dislike. It's no more complicated than 'I want to play the games that I buy' for most people.

There is this uniquely left-leaning position wherein they need to justify their political opinions by debasing the people they hurt. Like they're clearly uncomfortable with stuff like this, but instead of needing to think about it, they'll justify it by saying 'well they clearly did something wrong'

Close. The F710 is from 2010.

That all being said, I think it's a good video that explains some esoteric but interesting information. I think it's pretty funny that you'd get annoyed by it enough to go post about it on bsky, but you do you I guess.

I've got my problems with 100th Coin's video—mainly that the title regards ALL Nintendo emulators, whereas the video only talks about the unimpactful failures of their NES emulators. I think their N64 and Gamecube emulators for the Switch are much worse and much more deserving of criticism.

TriCNES isn't designed for playing games. It only accepts input in the form of TAS files. It's an extremely accurate emulator for that purpose only. It runs fine on my 5 year old laptop.
September 10, 2025 at 12:19 AM
Accuracy isn't important to every emulator, but it is important that there are some emulators that are accurate.
September 10, 2025 at 12:14 AM
The point was brought up that it does matter. You can ACE on some improperly emulated VRAM and desncy on real hardware. Is that deliberately contrarian? Maybe. How about the SMB1 TAS that desnycs on real hardware due to a skipped lag frame? It's okay if you don't care abouy that, but some people do.

Far Cry 4 was my introduction to the series, and it's still my favourite. I'd probably boot it up more often if I didn't need to install ubi connect...

'We provide a lot pf services to ensure a game remains playable'

Doom provides no services, and it's been playable for 32 years. This isn't an unsolvable problem. It's not even a difficult problem

Some phones do have the ability to automatically match the refresh rate of a given piece of media, but you shouldn't rely on it. Afaik, all modern-ish phones have the ability to switch to 60Hz somewhere in settings, so maybe include a note about that in the video.

Ideological purity trumps reality for these people. 'We refuse to compromise, even if it means a worse outcome' is exactly as stupid as it sounds, yet these people persist.

Oh yeah, I highly recommend it. Its the sort of game where, once it starts to click, you're rewarded with a kind of addictive satisfaction that you don't find in other games. Its a common answer because its something that you can only really play once, but its an absolute treat for that first time

Yep, Metal Gear Solid 5 does this and it's a realistic strategy on occasion

Puzzle games are the perfect contenders. Return of the Obra Dinn would probably be my choice. It's been a few years since I first played it, so I might just have forgotten the solutions...
