Can you tell if this post was written by AI? Our research says probably not!

Amy Shaberman will present our work on AI-generated and human-written plain language summaries (PLS) at #ISMPPAnnual. Reviewers were asked to say if they thought a PLS was AI-generated or written by a person.

Mike spotted this before the rest of us. 🫡

Publications from 2025 are shared more on Bluesky than on X/Twitter.
About to talk to medical affairs colleagues, with the news that Bluesky is carrying more posts about new journal publications than X #bluesky #altmetrics #x #xparrot

The prevalence of AI is itself a problem. Many of the tools we've used for years now come with built-in #AI assistants, and these can't always be easily disabled. Given the associated risks and permissions required for responsible AI use, using genAI tools should always be a conscious choice. #ISMPP

Half way through Day 1 of #ISMPPEurope and already some fascinating conversations around #AI in #MedComms. Some truly innovative ideas being investigated, interesting ways in which people are applying it, and some mildly concerning ways in which some folks are already trying to use it.

Although the main hashtag #ISMPP meeting doesn’t start until tomorrow, Implementing AI in Medical Communications and other premeeting workshops are happening today, and I look forward to seeing many of you there.

With social media - promote the science, not the product. Telling people a paper exists/poster or presentation is happening shouldn't be a compliance problem. Claims, opinions, or cherry picked results without context would be a different story. #ISMPPEurope2023

AI could be a useful tool to analyse large numbers of publications but any output should still be sense checked, as well as fact checked and data checked, by a human before you rely on it. #ISMPPEurope2023

Social media may be playing an increasingly important role in medical publishing but is not a good basis for a publishing model! #ISMPPEurope2022

Worryingly, retracted articles were cited in 20 national and regional guidelines in our analysis, where they could directly influence how patients are treated in clinical practice. Poster 13, #ISMPPEurope2023

Before accepting any automated analysis of social media content, consider how well it can deal with real world issues like sarcasm. "Oh great, more bleeding!" may include 2 positive words but it is most definitely not a positive comment! #ISMPPEurope2023
