+ being specifically a Mid to Late 90s 3D Arcade Game With Stellar Visual + Audio Presentation Maniac, a version of Klonoa with the presentational style of specifically Namco's arcade games at the time that still managed to carry some of the emotional core of the games is like, Me Core specifically

but on the other hand, the Arcade Maniac™️ in me can see the potential in pushing its mechanics to have maybe a higher skill floor, definitely an even higher skill ceiling, and how it could potentially flow with slightly shorter levels and a more arcadey structure

also just saw the little reply chain where y'all were nattering about a Klonoa arcade game and again I'm torn; on the one hand I agree that the games as they are are better served for being low skill floor high-ish skill ceiling puzzle platformers you can leisurely stroll through*,

hell I can't even decide which soundtrack I ultimately prefer. on most days, its the first game's- it has a Jungle Banger as one of the boss themes- on others, the fact that one of the second game's worlds is almost entirely scored with big band swing jazz edges it out.

i'm always a little bit torn on which I prefer of the two; to a degree it depends on the day you ask me. I do personally think the mixups and additions to the gameplay 2 makes give the Klonoa Experience slightly more depth, but the first still has plenty on its own.

and the gameplay is still tight- it still has the sauce that makes the originals so good (and like, obviously a big part of the Klonoa sauce is the aesthetics, but the gameplay can't be overlooked- the games are really fucking good as games, some of the best light-puzzle platforming you can get)

there are definitely quibbles- some of the redone modelling/textures/lighting is a tiny bit shonky, its very obvious that that the K1 remake is more or less a port of the Wii one (so its nit quite achieving gameplay parity with the PS1 version), but there's still a lot of strong visuals

i was a little tiny bit late to the Klonoa party (it was the late 2000s when i got a chance to try 1 & 2 out) but i've been hooked ever since and it has always bummed me out that the series was so inaccessible for so long. so im jazzed that's not as much of an issue anymore

i will say whilst i have some Thoughts on how the Phantasy Reverie rereleases look + animate (not necessarily negative!) in comparison to the originals for both games, I am delighted they exist. i'm thankful the games are widely available for people to play at a reasonable price

can confirm having now beat it; Klonoa 2 is still a Banger Game also

still need to beat Klonoa 1 again (Vision 6-2 is brutal innit)

it would be nice if it did; linked cabs aside an argument can be made that RR2 is 'redundant' given it didn't introduce any new courses but anyone who says they don't want to run the classic tracks with Grip or Over The Highway playing is a charlatan and liar.
