I discussed this scenario with a referee observer aka assessor 2 seasons ago and he said that refs *have* to be sure they're right, in the moment, or they can't officiate. Believe you me, I've tried

I have this conversation every week. Referees are not going to say 'you're absolutely right, I have to change my decision'. It just doesn't happen, on or off the pitch.
